Arrival by car

Follow the A1 motorway to the north. At Heiligenhafen the A1 turns into the federal highway 207/E47. It leads you across the Fehmarn Sound Bridge to Fehmarn. Plan your journey easily with the Google route planner.

Staying on the island for a longer period? In that case the weekly parking ticket saves money! It is valid for seven days for the main car parking lots in Burg, Burgtiefe, Meeschendorf and Lemkenhafen. Just buy the ticket once at the ticket machine for € 25 and park your car at all the hotspots of Fehmarn.

You drive an electric car? There are three public charging stations, with two recharging points each: they are located in Burg on car park “East” in front of the school, in front of the Tourist Information Office at Bahnhofstrasse 30 and on car park “West” at Mellenthinplatz.
They can be used via an app or the E.on-Drive charging card. Parking in the area is free of charge during the charging process. Your own charging cable is required.

Arrival by train

There are two railway-stations on Fehmarn that are regularly served by the Expressbus X85: Burg and Puttgarden.

Every other hour you can take the regional train from Hamburg Hbf (Central Station) to Lübeck Hbf and then the Expressbus to Burg or Puttgarden and back. From both stations there are local bus connections to some holiday resorts on our island. Detailed information on the Expressbus X85 can be found in the next section.

Tickets are available from the ticket machines at the stations in Burg and Puttgarden, via the Internet or can be purchased Mon-Fri 9.00 - 16.00 in our tourist information office in Burg.

Plan your journey with Deutsche Bahn
Expressbus X85 between Lübeck and Fehmarn

From 31 August 2022, train services to Fehmarn will be suspended for the next years. From this point on, comfortable double-decker coaches will be operating as Expressbusses between Lübeck and Puttgarden, with intermediate stops in Haffkrug, Lensahn, Oldenburg (Holst.), Grossenbrode and Fehmarn-Burg.

The bus line is called "Expressbus X85" and tickets for the journey can be purchased from the usual Deutsche Bahn sales outlets (ticket machines, ticket center, website or DB Navigator app).

The buses run hourly during the day (between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.) between Lübeck and Puttgarden. The ride lasts:

  • from Lübeck to Puttgarden: 1 hour 49 minutes
  • from Lübeck to Fehmarn-Burg: 1 hour 36 minutes

Please note that bicycles can only be taken on board the buses to a very limited extent. The buses are equipped with rear bicycle racks that can transport 5 bicycles. Unfortunately, it is not possible to take e-bikes, tricycles, tandems, etc. with you due to space and weight reasons.

The exact travel times can be found on www.bahn.com. Here you can also book your train and bus connection from your starting point to Fehmarn as one single ticket.
