Leuchtturm Marienleuchte

Short facts

Fehmarn's oldest lighthouse is located on the northeastern corner of the island. It was built in honour of the Danish Queen Marie Sophie Frederikke, who also attended the opening ceremony on 28 October 1832. The lighthouse was named after her and is thus called "Marienleuchte". The essential enlargement of the old lighthouse was not possible due to the state of repair. Therefore a new 33 m high lighthouse of ferroconcrete was built north of the old lighthouse.
