Directions to and from Fehmarn

Choose the easy journey

Your journey to Fehmarn

Whatever you are planning - with our hints on how to reach Fehmarn you will arrive relaxed and can enjoy your holiday right from the start. Here you will find all the necessary information about your journey, be it by car, train, ferry or by bus - and how to stay mobile on the island.

Transport mode
Arrival by car

Follow the A1 motorway to the north. At Heiligenhafen the A1 turns into the federal highway 207/E47. It leads you across the Fehmarn Sound Bridge to Fehmarn. Plan your journey easily with the Google route planner.

Staying on the island for a longer period? In that case the weekly parking ticket saves money! It is valid for seven days for the main car parking lots in Burg, Burgtiefe, Meeschendorf and Lemkenhafen. Just buy the ticket once at the ticket machine for € 20 and park your car at all the hotspots of Fehmarn.

You drive an electric car? There are three public charging stations, with two recharging points each: they are located in Burg on car park “East” in front of the school, in front of the Tourist Information Office at Bahnhofstrasse 30 and on car park “West” at Mellenthinplatz.
They can be used via an app or the E.on-Drive charging card. Parking in the area is free of charge during the charging process. Your own charging cable is required.

Arrival by train

There are two railway-stations on Fehmarn that are regularly served by trains of the German Railway Company ("Deutsche Bahn"): Burg and Puttgarden.

Every other hour you can take the regional train from Hamburg Hbf (Central Station) via Lübeck to Burg or Puttgarden and back. The timetables may vary slightly depending on weekday and season. From both stations there are bus connections to some holiday resorts on our island.

Tickets for local transport are available from the ticket machines at the stations in Burg and Puttgarden, and from the Fehmarn Travel Center at Landkirchener Weg 1 in Burg. Long-distance tickets are available via the Internet or from the ticket machines.

Arrival by ferry

The Scandlines Ferries link Puttgarden with the Danish town of Rødby at half-hourly intervals. A ferry crossing takes 45 minutes.

Arrival by Flixbus

The Flixbus also stops regularly on Fehmarn. So you can comfortably reach Puttgarden from various German cities such as Cologne, Bremen, Hanover, Hamburg or Lübeck.

Mobility on Fehmarn

You can stay mobile on Fehmarn without your own vehicle. On public busses, (which are also part of the App DB Navigator of Deutsche Bahn), or the convenient "Citizen Busses" or in taxis of different companies you can explore the island at your pleasure.
