The landmark of the island - The Fehmarn Sound Bridge

For most visitors, their holiday starts right here: The Fehmarn Sound Bridge does not only connect the sunny island with the mainland, it is in fact the landmark of Fehmarn and is affectionately called the "coat hanger". It is also a section of the so-called Vogelfluglinie, the route migratory birds take from Central Europe to Scandinavia, and the direct traffic route between the Copenhagen and Hamburg conurbations, which has been developed since the 1960s.

New lookout tower in Burgtiefe

In October 2021, the new 16.50 meter high, barrier-free and freely accessible lookout tower "Utkieker" was opened at the Burgtiefe marina. 72 steps or an elevator lead you up to the viewing platform, from which you can enjoy a unique 360-degree view over Burgtiefe, the marina, the Burger Binnensee and the open Baltic Sea.

Connected with Denmark – the ferry port of Puttgarden

The ferry station and the ferry port of Puttgarden were built in connection with the expansion of the Vogelfluglinie, the direct transport route between the Copenhagen and Hamburg conurbations, which was developed in the 1960s. Since then they have been the starting point of the 19-kilometre ferry connection to Rödby in Denmark. The Danish ferry Kong Frederik IX officially opened the new route on 14 May 1963. In May 1977, the 50-millionth passenger crossed the Belt, in 1988 it was already the 100-millionth. Today, the Scandlines ferries travel to Denmark every 30 minutes taking just 45 minutes for the crossing.
