Northern Lowlands

Short facts

  • Fehmarn OT Westermarkelsdorf
The nature reserve "Nördliche Seeniederungen" (Northern Lowlands) extends over the entire north-western coast of Fehmarn. It stretches from the Fastensee north of Bojendorf via the Markelsdorfer Huk to Grüner Brink and encompasses numerous inland lakes. Its special location and the diversity of its flora make it an important breeding habitat for rare terns, waders and reed dwellers. The northern lowlands are off-limits. However, from the observation tower on the Markelsdorfer Huk and from the dike you have a wonderful view of the landscape and the feathered world.
